HOUSTON, Jul 23, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE: CCI) announced today that the Board of Directors has appointed Carl Ferenbach as a director, filling a vacant position on the board. Mr. Ferenbach, age 60, previously served as a director of Crown Castle from its founding in 1995 to 2001. Mr. Ferenbach was Crown Castle's chairman from 1997-1999.

Mr. Ferenbach has been a managing director of Berkshire Partners LLC, a private equity investment firm, since its founding in the early 1980s. Berkshire manages six investment funds with approximately $3.5 billion of capital for equity investments in its targeted sectors. Mr. Ferenbach is also chairman of English, Welsh & Scottish Railway Ltd, Britain's leading freight railroad, and is a director of U.S. Can Corporation. He received an A.B. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
