|Crown Castle Deploys Distributed Antenna System at Stanford University; Network Helps Students, Families and Faculty Stay Connected|
HOUSTON, April 19, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE:CCI) announced today that one of its subsidiaries has deployed an outdoor distributed antenna system to facilitate wireless communications services at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. The distributed antenna system is a network of antennas connected by fiber to a communications hub designed to facilitate wireless communications services for multiple operators. Crown Castle has also received approval from Stanford to add in-building antenna nodes to support various other locations on the university campus, including the Stanford School of Medicine and Stanford Hospital & Clinics.
Stanford has more than 15,000 students, nearly 2,000 faculty members and approximately 150,000 visitors annually. "We understand Stanford's need to provide reliable wireless voice and data service to its students, faculty and visitors," stated Pat Slowey, Crown Castle's Senior Vice President of Sales. "Further, the distributed antenna system we have deployed gives Stanford a coverage solution that does not compromise the aesthetics and beauty of the campus."
The distributed antenna system deployed at Stanford utilizes strategically placed rooftop antennas, pole mounted antennas, and a stealth scoreboard pole at the 50,000-seat Stanford Stadium. The system currently facilitates wireless coverage for three major wireless communication operators and another operator is in the process of deploying. The current system has capacity for a fifth operator. "Crown Castle is dedicated to providing wireless communication operators with complete solutions and support, so a distributed antenna system is a natural extension of our core business," stated Mr. Slowey.
